Dan Winters
Dan Winters started off doing photojournalism in California, then went onto doing all sorts of photography such as celebrity portraits, scientific photography, photojournalistic stories, drawings and photo illustrations. He has won more than one hundred awards, nationally and internationally. He has a huge client list which range from the likes of Apple, Netflix, Nike to GQ, Vanity Fair, Variety and many more.
These pictures are from Dan Winters series which is called 'Honeybees'.
They stood out to me because of how the photographs look like they have been created on a computer and not like they are actually real, it's amazing to be able to see all of the little hairs that are on the bees and the hive. Also I think it makes it stand out even more because of how the background it completely black, that makes it so you can't get distracted by anything other than the main subject.
These two images are two of my favourite photographs from Dan Winters. I love how even tho they are in black and white they haven't been retouched to be too dark, the highlights allow you to see all of the details and keep the images super clear and crisp. I also love how they are in square format rather than format or portrait, it makes the subjects the main focus but stills shows a glimpse of what is behind them so you get an idea of what environment they are in. I think within my own work it would be interesting to shoot my images either portrait or landscape with it in mind that I could crop them to be square in post.
Dan Winters work stands out to me a lot because of how versatile it all is and how he is able to do such a variety of styles, if you were to look at all of his photographs separately without knowing who they belonged to I think most wouldn't believe that they were all shot by the same photographer. I think these two photographs in particular are so different from one another, which really just shows his skill and ability to adapt to whoever he is photographing and matching the style with them.
